ClimateAntarctica is the coldest place on earth and the climate is very extreme, thus the reason not many biotic features live there in addition to no humans because of the harsh weather conditions. All year round the continent is covered in snow and ice with freezing temperatures and sometimes has winds called “catabian winds” which cause very dangerous snow storms that sometimes last up to weeks. Antarctica has two seasons, winter and summer. The summer months are October through to February and the Winter months include March through to September. In summer the sun does not set whereas in winter the sun does not rise, Antarctica has freezing winters and short cold summers. Six months of the year are complete darkness which makes it really hard to grow flora. The average temperature in winter is about -49°C and in summer ranges from 2°C to -20°C. As a result, this is the climate and average temperatures that occur in Antarctica throughout the year. The line graph below shows the average temperatures for the main places in Antarctica throughout the year.
